For Windows:

1. Download the file(s) (.zip, .iso, .exe) from the link sent to you by elicensing@software.psu.edu.

2. Download and open the MD5Hash.txt file from the link sent to you by elicensing@software.psu.edu

3. Download and run the program WinMD5 from here: http://winmd5.com.

winmd5

  • This program is meant to tell if your download completed successfully.

4. Drag the downloaded file into the empty box below Select a file to compute MD5 checksum… or click the Browse button to find the file.

5. The program will start to compute the value automatically; it may take a few minutes to compute depending on the file size.

6. Once completed, the box below Current file MD5 checksum value: will populate with the checksum value.

7. Now copy and paste the MD5 value located in the MD5Hash.txt document.  Please note, some downloads contain multiple files, so the MD5Hash.txt document will contain multiple MD5 values.  Please make sure you are copying the correct value.

8. Paste the value into the Original file MD5 checksum value… box. After pasting click the Verify button.

9. If the MD5 value does not match up, you will see this:

Values_Do_Not_Match

10. If the match is correct you will see this:

Values_Do_Match

11. If the value does NOT match you will need to re-download the file(s) that did not match from the link sent to you by elicense@software.psu.edu

For Mac:

1. Download the file(s) (.zip, .iso, .exe) from the link sent to you by elicensing@software.psu.edu.

2. Download and open the MD5Hash.txt file from the link sent to you byelicensing@software.psu.edu.

3. Run Terminal. This program is already on your Mac. You can find it by searching for Terminal in Spotlight.

Applications_Utilities_Terminal

4. Open Terminal, type md5 and then hit the Space Bar.

5. Drag the downloaded file into Terminal and hit Enter on your keyboard.

  • Depending on the size of the file it will take a couple of seconds to compute.

6. It will then give you a sequence.

MD5 (/Users/yourname/location/filename.iso) = bff23ba0b17fd6bf0cac055745c16835

  • The bold sequence is the MD5 checksum value.

7. Compare it to the sequence in the MD5Hash.txt document.

8. If they are different, your download was unsuccessful, and you will need to download the file again.
